Dear Jessica,
Your Mom is so brave. I admire her and know with all the prayers being sent up stairs in her behalf SHE WILL GET BETTER!
Having your sister and her children around must help a lot. We can't wait to see our daughter Margo Thursday night even if she only gets to stay a few days. We will take what we can get and be thankful for that.
Today I was trying to do a little laundry in our 20 year old washer. Sure it is old but in 16 years I have only had one service call. The man said don't get rid of it the new ones only last a few years. They don't make them like this any more. Hum. Mine refuses to turn off but won't spin dry. Poor Herb had the job of wringing out every thing. I finally unplugged it.
Next my uncle (92) called on my cellphone to say our telephone was disconnected. He was right! Yesterday I received a 14.95 credit check. Our number was not used for over 8 weeks as they didn't turn it on for 10 days after we moved back in. After I deal with that Jessica I have to go to city hall and buy, if I can, a permit to have our hurricane shutters re-installed. No one wanted to rehang them as they say they are not up to code. I finally found out what that means. Some were hung on the wood part of the villa with the wrong kind of screws. Can you beat that?
I am one tired cookie so I will answer all your questions as soon as the dust settles.
                   Love You,
            Roberts Mom

Hi Roberts Mom! I was hoping the reason I didn't hear from you meant you were moving back into your place! I am sorry to hear that your roof is still leaky - What a pain! Mom has her next treatment this coming Thursday. I know it's effects are cumulative, but she's handling this chemo very well. Her best friend will be here Wednesday to visit her and she's going to shave her head for her (hair should start falling out soon). So far she really has only been fatigued the weekend after treatment. She's still working 4 hours every day (and that's a blessing -she really enjoys being at work). So I am thankful for every day she is able to go to my sisters with me and play with her grandkids.

I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed that you and Herb will be able to travel to Texas for the Shakespeare festival. How fun! I went to school at the University of Iowa and they have a Shakespeare Theater and put on plays there all throughout the summer!

The weather here has been very unusual - Mostly cooler than normal and probably more rain than normal too - Nothing like what you have been getting in South Florida!

Our 4th of July was good. Went to a barbeque with family and then mom and I went to see the fireworks. How was yours?

So so happy to hear you you have a break in any kind of treatment - That's fantastic news? How is Herb doing now that you are back in your place? I hope he's better ...

Well I need to make something for myself for dinner - Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Cheers! jessica

Dear Jessica,
Here it is July 8th and you e-mailed June 25th! I never did get to read your message until today as that great world genius AT&T and their DSL Technician couldn't get my computer working once we were back in our own villa. After he left I tried to go on line but no luck again. Then I spent one hour and forty five minutes speaking with and following instructions on the phone. Today it was back to not working so I had my computer guy here for two hours, also on the phone, and tonight I am finally on line. I got tired just writing that!
I hate to share troubles that are, thank goodness, not health related but... would you believe the rain came in the same place it all started 8 weeks ago! I sat on the new carpet and cried for a second and then reminded myself it wasn't my health. Now we have a tarp over the roof for who knows how long. Our condominium is being sued for one million by the roofers that did bad jobs on many villas including ours. We are counter suing so it is going to be a long wet season praying for the best and dreading the worst.
By now your Mom must have had another chemo treatment. I feel for her and pray it all goes well and brings her back to perfect health.
My appointment with my Oncologist went well. He didn't hear or feel anything to worry about and as I feel about the same he decided I should wait until the end of August to have any testing done. I agreed as I am enjoying my freedom to have a life away from treatment for just a little while longer. Please G-D.
On the light side our beautiful Granddaughter Morgan, the budding actress, was cast as Isabella in the Shakespeare festival in Austin Texas this September. Herb & I would love to be there, so say a little prayer for us.
I know Chicago weather is unpredictable but South Florida has to be the worst for tropical storms that flood everything and leave puddles for mosquitoes to breed.
Well Jessica, thanks for keeping in touch. I hope to hear good news from you soon.
How was your 4th.?
                     Love,
                     Roberts Mom

Hi Jean - Well we are one chemo treatment down. Mom didn't have to have a blood transfusion so that was a big load off. She doesn't want a strangers blood and unfortunately me, my sister and my dad are unable to donate for her. We are B negative and she's O positive. Several of her co-workers have stepped up and offered to bank blood for her if needed. We are so blessed with so many good friends (you included). I don't think mom's type of cancer responds to Alimta, but if this all doesn't work I will definitely say something. She was still a little shaken when I picked her up tonight, but we had dinner and now she is home (hopefully resting, but I think she's on the phone). Feeling a little more emotionally stronger today. Still sad, but I am sucking it up for my mom!

I hope you have carpet today! Hopefully you will be back home soon. Still hotter than anything here in Chicago. Stifling 95 degree heat with lots of humidity - But I know you know how that goes being down in Florida. I think I am dry heat person. When I retire I think I am going to do the Arizona thing ... Maybe Vegas. I like it there too! :) Next weeks weather is supposed to be more my style - 80 and partly sunny with no humidity. How is Herb doing?

Talk soon - Jessica

Dearest Jessica,
When I read your news today all my problems melted away and I am ashamed to feel so sorry for myself. You know I will continue to pray both morning & night.

The carpet was supposed to be put down yesterday. It never happened. Today Mother Nature postponed things yet again with a tropical storm. Lots of thunder and lightening. Maybe you will laugh with me when I tell you the only people who braved the storm were two men to give me an estimate on rehanging the Hurricane shutters that were not put up according to code. Stay tuned on that.
Jessica, chemotherapy never helped me either. When I finished with it I was given 3 to 6 months so my advise to you is not to give up if it doesn't help your Mom. What did work for me was Alimta. Please ask your Doctor to give it a try if all else fails.
May G-D bless you and your parents,
                      Love,
                   Roberts Mom

Hi Roberts Mom - We did not get good news today. I appreciate all of the prayers. Mom has had 4 new spots show up on her lungs, so we start second line chemo on Thursday. This time is carboplatin and taxol. It will be better (hopefully) that the first time around as she only has to go once every three weeks. As you can imagine I am devastated. I hope and pray that the next round works. The onc doesnt want to give up and neither does my mom - Actually I think she is taking this better than I am ... Please say some more prayers for us. It's meant more to me than anyone will ever know ... Jessica

Dearest Julie,
Robert was in Gladstone New Jersey for the big horse show there. They had so much rain Sunday it was called off and he worked with many riders he was supposed to work with today. He just called from the airport before boarding a plane back to Florida.
Your Robert was here with Simon for dinner. He solved my IPhone problem. The letters and numbers were too small for me to navigate. Now they are large. Then he discovered a way to unlock our oven. Neither Herb or I had a clue. I ended up making a frozen Lasagna in the microwave. We didn't go hungry.
"Simon The Terrible" their adorable one year old Schnoodle is full of fun but he knows exactly what he wants and where he wants to be. We went from the rental house to our house two doors down and he wanted no part of that. He was afraid he was gong to be left behind, Robert said "Come on Simon we are going in". Simon stood his ground. Then he walked to the car. We had to really go in so he would follow. Got to love the kid in him. I remember Dale & Robert doing the same thing to me as children. I used to go around the block in my car while they stood in the window crying. I would go back in and say "Are you coming now?" Robert would look at Dale, his big sister, for the answer and depending if she thought I had suffered enough they would come like lambs.

It looks like another,7th week, in the rental. The carpet was supposed to be in today but it is 5:17 and no sign of the installers yet. I just called and they will come at 9:30 tomorrow morning. It is just as well as it is starting to rain here.
Stay tuned. The saga isn't over till it is over.
                      Love Jean
