In beloved memory of Ann Reilly, Roberts first Other Mom

When Robert was about 14 a wonderful little red headed Lady, Ann Reilly, came into our lives at Sunshine Ranches in Davie, Florida where both Beth her daughter, and Robert rode.
At that time you could only drive up to 441 before coming to a gravel road. Rattlesnakes still lurked. One day driving to the stable one sidled up the side of the car looking in at us through the window.. I was truly frightened. Not Robert. He said, "Lets go back and see it again!"
Sunshine Ranches was lovely with open fields where cattle roamed and where there were several areas for Jumpers and Dressage riders.
Beth's Mom, who had been an Olympic skater in her youth, really enjoyed watching Robert ride. She appreciated his work ethic which he has to this day. For him there was no difference between weekdays, weekends or holidays. He rode rain or shine with a broken leg or arm no matter So their bond was formed. Ann's trailer loaded two. She cheerfully took both Kids to all the local and distant shows. Before they rode she gave them a tiny drop of ammonia to brace them up along with an encouraging smile, and a "Give it your best shot." I on the other hand made the mistake of asking, "Robert did you eat breakfast?" Worse,"Are you too warm, let me hold your jacket until to go in." His response was "Mom,Why can't you be like the other Mothers and just wish me good luck?"
At that time both Beth and Robert were Three Day Adventers. It was soon clear Robert was not cut out for that sport as he was usually lost in the forest.. We all laughed with relief to see him bounding out of the forest with a huge smile & a happy horse.
The last time I saw Ann was at a show which I believe was in Harrisburg PA. She and her dear Husband came from their home in Va. to watch him ride Romatico. We had a lovely reunion.
Today I tried in vain to find Beth Reilly to get her memories to add to mine. I called a few people named Beth Reilly but no luck. Robert last heard of her being a Postmaster in Perceville VA. If you know her please tell her I would love to speak with her just to hear how she is and reminisce a little more.
                      Thanks,
                   Roberts Mom
