Well, I can see from the response my new brain teaser game is going over like a lead balloon. I guess this will be your last change to win a shirt by playing it. Even if you only get one right you will probably win.
    Good luck.

    Hey Jean,
There’s probably a load of guys out there who have all got their thinking caps on!
For the moment I just thought you would like to know Hazel is doing much better. She has undergone her third round of chemo and they will take a scan after the fourth. Mum is very cheered by how quickly she is rallying now and is therefore in better spirits herself. Thank you for your prayers, let’s keep ‘em up!
Hope you are doing well yourself, thinking of you, be in touch soon,
    Love,

    Bernie

I am going to work on it today… I actually didn’t see it. Usually your new stuff shows up on the first page of Roberts Blog ! I was anxiously waiting for this !
Thanks for making up this new brain teaser !

  4. Jessica — November 24, 2009 @ 2:51 pm

I wasn’t fast enough to respond last time, but it looks like I might have a chance here! Let’s see if I can come up with some answers!

  5. Jean Dover — November 24, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

    Dearest Bernie,
I am so happy your Mom’s friend Hazel is responding well. Tell her I am never going to stop praying for her. Hopefully she will go into remission like I did for almost 6&1/2 years.
My last chemo was the 5th. Usually I feel much better in two weeks. Not this time. I finally went for a shot to boost my red blood cells. Even that didn’t help. I was just dragging myself around. Yesterday I decided to go to Costco which is a huge food club we belong to. I had Herb’s caregiver drive, and said I would just sit on a bench, and give her the list. I walked in and suddenly decided to walk the huge stores isles myself. They couldn’t get over my recovery. I finally realized there was nothing the matter with me. I was simply depressed. Today is the first day of my new depression free life. I have so much to be thankful for. Thanksgiving will be very special. and I say amen to that.
    Love,
    Robert’s Mom

    Dear Jessica,
Hearing that you have some ideas for answering my quiz makes me so happy. I was going to cancel the whole idea. Now I will wait and see what you come up with. Don’t forget even if you get one or two you will be a winner.
    Love,
    Robert’s Mom

  7. Jean Dover — November 24, 2009 @ 3:35 pm

    Dear Marci,
I must ask Rd if he sent out your shirt yet. If not I will have him bring it to me, and I will be sure to send it on.
    Love,
    Robert’s Mom

  8. Marci Brown — November 25, 2009 @ 8:29 am

    Okay,
I love you Roberts Mom, but you have stumped me !

I know #1 - Tracey Ullman, if those of you out there smarter then me can use that and figure out the rest !

Have a great Thanksgiving and cherish time with family and friends !
    Marci

  9. Bernie Hewitt — November 25, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

    Jean,

Lots of people have so much to be thankful for in having you. God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving from across the pond!

    Bernie x

  10. Bernie Hewitt — November 26, 2009 @ 5:57 pm

PS At a glance, I only know the possible answer to Number 5, so challenge to Mom’s supporters - beat a lawyer? Now’s your chance (though I’m a good good guy not chasing billable hours)…laughs….
    Bx

  11. Marci Brown — November 26, 2009 @ 9:23 pm

    Bernie,
    I am a lawyer at heart…. I know number 1 already , and would wager a guess at 6…..
my two beat your one !
Or we could combine our efforts and see if anyone is smarter than us !

    Marci

  12. Jean Dover — November 27, 2009 @ 8:36 pm

    My goodness Marci & Berni,
It just cost me an arm & leg to send a shirt to you Marci because you live in Canada. I guess with you Canadians and Londoners being so smart I will go broke if I have another teaser!
    So who will win?????

Robert set up, served, and did the dishes for the best Thanksgiving dinner ever. I didn’t have to lift a finger. After, we went onto his wrap around balcony to watch the ships come into their berths. The weather, and company were perfect. I am one lucky Mother to have such a wonderful son. May the Force be kind to him. He is off to Calgary on the first.
    Love,
    Robert’s Mom

  13. Marci Brown — November 30, 2009 @ 11:32 am

Okay, since no one was smart enough….. luckily you don’t have to use up any more arms and legs mailing out prizes !
    BUT….
the suspense is killing me ! What are the answers to the darn thing ? Is number 1 Tracey Ullman, and 6 Mackenzie Phillips ?

Hope you are feeling well, you are in my prayers.
    Marci

  14. Bernie Hewitt — December 7, 2009 @ 6:47 pm

Responding to Marci I think No. 5 is Lee Trevino. Robert’s Mom sets a smart test. Oh for the end of term and time!
Jean , Hazel’s doing very well, in much better spirits and positive. The next scan will be crucial, but I have told my mother all about you and she has been inspired!
    Lots love
    Bernie x

  15. Bernie Hewitt — December 8, 2009 @ 5:27 am

Ooops….I meant answer to number 4!!

  16. Jean Dover — December 8, 2009 @ 3:53 pm

Ok ladies here are the answers.
You both got #1 Tracy Ullman.
    # 2 Bonnie Raitt age 60. Her foundation fights for royalties and benefits for Pioneer R&B artists
#3 Allison Janney age 50. Emmy-wining West Wing star used to fib she was a national Geographic photographer.
#4 Lee Trevino age 70 Golf legend worked in Texas cotton fields starting at age 5.
#5 Sissy Spacek age 60 nearing her home state Texas born Spacek says,”my accent thickens, and I feel very safe.
#6 Jonny Whitaker age 50. Former FAMILY AFFAIRS TOT spent two years in PORTUGAL AS A Mormon Missionary.

So ladies all this information was stolen from AARP magazine. There were 8 people featured. I am not sure I am giving the answers to the right 6. Forgive me. I have been going through a rough patch. I am looking for something I know will have meaning to send to both of you as soon as I am feeling stronger. Meanwhile I want to thank you for playing. It was fun for me to read what you had to say.
Have a very Happy Christmas, and a joyous New Year.
    Lovingly,
    Roberts Mom

  17. Jean Dover — December 8, 2009 @ 3:56 pm

I just realized one question was Mackenzie Phillips age 50 who was drug-plagued One day at a time star’s memoir is High on Arrival.
    Sorry

  18. Marci Brown — December 8, 2009 @ 9:41 pm

    Roberts Mom,
I have been worried about you, and keeping your in thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and healthy ! We need you around here ! I wish I could offer more help for you, but I know you are in good hands with your doctor and family.

We have been blessed with a warm fall so far, but are gearing up for our first big storm of the season tonight. I never feel like I am ready with the barn work for the winter…. it always seems to creep up on me. Someday, when the kids are grown, I think I need to venture to Florida for the winter. Maybe…. I should stop waiting and bring the kids to Disney World. I will wait until you are feeling up to it, then you can join us !

    Enjoy the Holiday Season !
    Much love
    Marci

  19. Jean Dover — December 9, 2009 @ 4:23 pm

    Dear Marci,
Thanks for your kind thoughts, and wishes for my health. This isn’t my first round of chemotherapy, and unfortunately probably won’t be my last. I was spoiled and lulled into to believing I would have more then 6 years of no problems. So now I am making the big fight. Chemotherapy may be a cure, but it makes you sick while hopefully helping you. At least it is warm here and I can sit outside if I am up to it.
Monday, Robert is taking me to my eye Doctor at Bascom Palmer. It is the biggest, best eye clinic in the world. People come from all over. I am so lucky to have it as my lung cancer is also in my eyes. I am praying the chemotherapy is stopping it from advancing. I will keep you posted.
I think I wrote a long time ago about taking our 4 children to Florida when they were young. We didn’t book rooms ahead for the night as we drove down. It got very late and when we finally found rooms Robert hollered, hurray, now it is too late to take a bath.
He fell in love with French Fried Frog legs and ate them where ever they were served. Al, who is 8 years older was in charge of him and took all the worry away from me.
You and your family will love Disney World. Don’t wait too long. The years fly by.
Have a fun filled blessed Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

    Love
    Robert’s Mom

  20. Bernie Hewitt — December 10, 2009 @ 6:12 am

    Robert’s Mom,

Am stepping up the prayers….you take care and get back on track soon. And don’t think you have send anything all the way over here, it’s just fun to particpate.
Thinking of you and sending you heaps of best wishes,
    Much love,
    Bernie

  21. Jessica — December 10, 2009 @ 9:42 am

Hi Jean! I hope you are hanging in there! Did you see that my Hawkeyes are in fact going to play at the Orange Bowl in Miami? Sadly I won’t be making the trip…. The friends that I usually travel with are both pregnant and can’t fly … So I will have to watch the football game from the warmth of my couch here in Chicago. Just wait until the Hawkeye fans invade Miami … You’ll think you were in Iowa (except for the weather)

Good luck at your appointment on Monday. We have one on Tuesday. Not sure if mom is going to have the first Alimta treatment that day or after the rest of the holidays. Doctor O’Reilly said he would make that call that day depending on how mom is feeling.

It’s 3 degrees here in Chicago - I got jealous at your post above saying you could sit outside if you felt up to it! Definitely wish we could here! We’ve had quite a blast of scary weather here this week - Rain, sleet, slush, snow and now horribly cold temperatures with really high winds. It’s supposed to warm up a bit this weekend, but I have a feeling it won’t warm up enough for riding… :(

Talk soon - Love Always - Jessica

PS - I never got back here to answer your questions, but I was able to figure them all out except Sissy Spacek … Can’t wait to see the next set of questions!

  22. Jean Dover — December 10, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

    Dear Bernie,
If you go to jd33024@bellsouth.net and give me your address I will send you a shirt. What size do you need?
The weather everywhere in America is very cold except Florida where we can’t cool off. It has been too hot to sit outside. Usually by now every day is perfect. Such is life.
    Again have a happy holiday.
    Love, Jean

  23. marci — December 12, 2009 @ 10:15 am

My shirt arrived ! Its adorable ! Thanks for the extra photo as well. I hope you are having a great day today ! Here the weather has settled a bit and we have a bit of sun today.
I am thinking I had better get out and start my christmas shopping for all these kids today ! Tonight we get a tree though, and that is always fun.
    Blessings,
    Marci

  24. Jean Dover — December 14, 2009 @ 9:11 pm

    Dearest Marcie,
Isn’t this the best time of the year? The Kids are excited to know Santa is coming with toys for good girls and boys. When I was Little, 7 or 8, I believed in Santa until I saw Marshall Field’s truck deliver the toys, and watched my brother hide them in the closet. When Al, Robert’s older brother, was little we put out toys from Santa on Christmas Eve. The next dayI took him downtown for some returns. He wrapped himself around a lamp post and screamed, “You didn’t get me anything for Christmas.” I pried him off feeling like every one watching thought I was a monster mother. I wanted to scream, “There is no Santa.” “It was Dad & Me who gave you those toys.” I just kept smiling thinking maybe others had had the same experience, and understood
Memories, memories. This blog sure brings them back.

    Love Robert’s Mom
