The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice

I believe in a miracle for Courtney! and I am wearing my helmet, every time every ride! Not even so much for myself but my family and friends. I pray for her husband and family who are so suffering.

I believe in a miracle for Courtney! I also pray that my own trainer and others at my barn will start wearing helmets. I wish it were a barn policy for all riders (not just those under 18 yrs.) with no exceptions.

Most of these injuries seem to occur NOT in the ring, that is during a show, but while schooling. That is when a horse is being asked something a bit more unusual, perhaps - that would lead to an accident. A good start would be forgoing those ball caps with a pony tail sticking out the back and wearing an approved helmet for schooling. This would include longing, I had a friend who recently was longing a horse that kicked out - hit her helmet and not her head.
So- how many serious accidents can anyone recall ever at a dressage competition (in the competition ring, not schooling)- or are these simply in the warm up ring or at home, where most dressage riders seem to be very lax. Many are freak accidents, like the women who was riding her horse in the barn, he reared and she broke her neck (why would anyone ride through a barn) or the women who was kicked in the face while trimming a tail (why would you put your face near the back end of a horse).. horses can be fractious and this is a dangerous sport. Women seem to want a horse as a pet, but let's face it- they are not and you can get injured or worse in this sport. It is awful that riders don't wear head protection which obviously, in this case, would have kept this wonderful women with us and competing today. I'ts just so sad that this is preventable and very few of us wear hard hats as a matter of course. Maybe it's when you become a mom and you are responsible for someone else that the "protection" vibe sinks in- but I have been riding for 55 years, fox hunting, jumpers, hunters, dressage- never gone out once without a hard hat.
I am so sad for her it's tragic.
