Courtney Update - March 6th, 3:00am
Courtney update as of 3am. you may post this.
Courtney is holding on. She remains on a ventilator and some mild sedation. The sedation has been decreased because they have started the weaning process to get Court off the vent. Sedation needs to be decreased so the patient will be able to breath on her own. They have turned the the breath rate on the vent to 8 and Courtney is breathing on her own over the vent rate. The bolt that measures the intracranial pressure remains in place, along with a ventricular drain. The ventricular drain has been clamped. They have not had to open it to relieve any brain pressure. Concerns are that the sedation has been decreased and there has not been more activity on Courtneys behalf. The brain needs a long time to heal…so keep praying!
RD
Let’s keep adding to the prayers in the post below and see if we can turn 100’s into 1000’s before the end of the weekend! I believe the prayers are working. Not fast enough for ¤e, but I’m not the most patient person, eh? But there are hundreds of thousands of riders and dressage people around the world and the power of all their prayers will surely do it. So PLEASE keep taking one minute to send your prayer for Courtney. Thank you again!!
RD

Please know how much she means to so many all over this great world and please, Dear God, use that loving and positive energy to heal her into the beautiful person, inside and out, that she has shown the world she is. She is truly one of earths living angels.

Marshaling all that is Good in the Universe and sending it Courtney’s way. From The Daily Word: I am blessed by the people in my life. Each piece of a quilt has its own color, pattern, texture and design with unique beauty and charm. But when the individual pieces of a quilt are sewn together, they become one magnificent work of art…Who are those people in the patchwork of my life? They are those I am close to as well as those I meet in passing. I give thanks for all of the people who touch my life in some way. I enfold them in prayer and hold them in a special place in my heart…”All who believed were together and had all things in common.” Acts 2:44

You might want to have your nurse source contact Wellington Memorial’s ethics committee, her immediate supervisor, and United Health Services’ corporate office to find out whether they want this information getting out. The hospital has information officers for just this kind of situation and your friend can be in serious trouble. I know that you think she thinks she is covered, but as a former professor of medical law & ethics I can tell you that merely admitting someone is a patient you treated or is at your facility while using two or more patient identifiers is against the law. Courtney’s family can seek restitution from the hospital and causing other people to not get the help they need. Regardless, there are serious legal ramifications (fines, jail time). This website can be used as evidence (although you will probably delete this comment anyway). You won’t be the one getting in trouble, just the ER nurse, the hospital, and the Wellington community. All in the name of driving traffic to your site and feeling important. But this time, you may have gone over the line. And United Health Services ethics line will be getting a call.

E Non Imus…. The family is aware of this information being put out here.. Why can’t you just mellow out and not assume she is breaking HIPPA Laws. She is a Registered Nurse and would be completely aware of the confidentiality she would be breaking. She would have to be in a coma herself not to know that is breaking the law.! Im sure!!

Miracles happen!! I pray for Courtney that she has her own miracle. Brain injuries take days, weeks, months to heal. I work as an ICU nurse and see it every day. It is encouraging to hear that her drain is clamped…..but this will be a loooong road for her. Keep those prayers coming! And yes, let’s put those helmets on. In this day and age of knowing better, it’s just plain stupid not to.

Courtney sparked my love for dressage a few years ago at the Ohio Equine Affair. After the clinic I walked right up to her and asked a question and she must have spent an hour explaining things to me. It was only after this I learned who she was. She has litterally changed my life and she does not know it.
I pray for her and her faimly in this tough time. God please give her the strength to pull through this. She is extremly telented and brave.

Courtney,
You are my daughter’s idol (okay, mine as well). It is you we refer to when we talk about perfect position and equitation. It is often said in lessons around here, “ride like Courtney”. It’s you that these young riders aspire to be. Until you are fully recovered, we will be sending positive healing energy your way, Courtney. And love and light to you and your loved ones.

Wow,
six months ago, my brother had a brain injury, at first the induced the como, we had no idea about brain injurys at the time, we quickly learned that as soon as he was able we needed to get him into to best rehab we could, i picked Spalding in Boston Ma. it was a very good deceision, as i witer this my hands shake and tears come to my eyes, i feal for all you family friends, but my brother had a very stong drive and will, which i know Courtny MUST have to make it to where she is today.
Brother Chris came home from the hospital and has has been getting better evry day, he has been back on his horse and skiing with in 6 month. he is a miracle, they do happen!
Camille Newton — March 9, 2010 @ 9:23 am
Lots of prayers for Courtney. I had a similar accident when I was 13, even with my crash helmet on I was unconscious for a week but came out of it. I went back to riding and ended up riding my borrowed pony in front of Robert Dover for Pony Club Dressage Nationals YEARS ago. So I know Courtney too will overcome this.

Ill take Aceves. Barely. IPKs got the upside and ability to be a decent starter (and decent starter >>> Aceves), but his future is just so cloudy (struggles and injuries) that you wonder if he puts it together after all.
