Dover’s World - Today, May 31st, with 2 Legends!

I am so excited anda bit nervous today to be doing my very first remote radio show from my beach house in Fire Island Pines, New York!  I did a test run with my producer, Carmine, a couple of nights ago andthankfully had a good friend who just also happens to be a computer genius as a guest, because otherwise I would still be frantically trying to make this little box work!  Anyway, we got everything up and running andwill do one more test around 4pm today just to be 100% certain there are no last minute glitches.

And that’s because my show today has two of the most important guests I’ve ever had the privilege of hosting on my show: Dan Mathews, Senior Vice- President of PETA who, like the organization or not, is an amazing animal lover and a funny, crazy guy who’s book, “Committed”, details his life and times as an animal activist. I have so many questions to ask Dan to try to separate fact from fiction andto better understandnd where the lines are drawn within this organization’s Mission Statement. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to tune in to WBZT(AM1230) in the Palm Beaches and LIVE around the world right here at DoversWorld.com and call in with your questions and comments to 561-844-6167 or toll-free from anywhere to 1-800-889-0267.  If you don’t participate in open and respectful conversations like these, you not only can’t expect our world to get better, but you really have no right to gripe about stuff you disagree with.

And my 2nd guest is truly one of the great legends from the sport of Baseball as a long standing ESPN correspondent, a post game host for the Yankees games and the host of  TalkingBaseball.net.  Ed also is responsible for ” Bat For The Cure” to stop Prostate Cancer.  Talk about a sports Icon, folks, and here’s your chance to speak directly with the man who’s name is know to the world as synonymous with Baseball!  Just call in to 561-844-6167 between 7:20 and 8pm EST to chat with Ed Randall about all your Baseball questions.  We all look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers!

Dover’s World, May 31st - Dan Mathews and Ed Randall!

I literallyhave two amazing celebrities with totally different backgrounds this coming Tuesday evening on Dover’s World  from 6-8pm EST on WBZT(AM1230) in the Palm Beaches and LIVE around the world right here at DoversWorld.com!  I am also excited to be bringing you my show live from my summer home on Fire Island, New York, where I will live through Labour Day.  All the usual characters you’ve come to know and love will still be on my show, but I will also be bringing you special guests directly from The Pines, many of whom are extraordinary people with amazing stories to tell.

I already posted that I am thrilled to have the opportunity to interview Dan Mathews, the Senior Vice-President on P.E.T.A., an organization dedicated to the welfare of animals, but one which has not always enjoyed the approval of those of us who have built our lives around horse sports.  I hope to learn the facts about PETA’s views on horses in sport as well as all animals used for sport or service.  Dan is, regardless of whether I agree with everything he stands for, an incredible person with a great life story and I expect our conversation to be both educational and humorous simultaneously. I encourage you all to tune in and call in to 561-844-6167 or toll-free from anywhere to 1-800-889-0267 with your respectful questions or comments for Dan.

My second hour is with a true legend from Baseball, Ed Randall.  Ed has been the voice of Baseball for decades and currently can be heard on Sports NY radio, Powerhouse,WFAN, in New York, on Sirius MLB Radio  across the nation and is the television post-game host for the Yankees games onMY9 TV.  Ed is also on the Internet at Talkingbaseball.net.  If you are a Baseball lover like most Americans, this is your chance to call in with your questions and comments and speak directly to the legendary Ed Randall!  Again, call in to 562-844-6167 or 1-800-889-0267!

Cheers!

My 4-Legged Loves! (Sort Of)

Simon, a la photo shop. courtesy of Ron Davis

My best friend, Ron, loves to take Simon along with his Dog. Cece, on long walks at the dog park here in Wellington.  The two dogs really love each other and run like maniacs for hours on end.  But even that does not result in Simon looking like he got into a stash of crystal meth which the picture most obviously depicts!  No - this photo is courtesy of the twisted mind of Ron Davis along with the technological advances otherwise known as “Photo Shopping”.  Still, the picture was so funny that I thought it worth putting up on my site for your enjoyment. :)

And today was also a personal milestone for me as I rode my 3 year old stallion, Hampton Green Farm Fiero for the first time since my friend, Nicholas Fyffe, began the breaking process about two weeks ago.  First, Nicholas has done a magnificent job with Fiero who took tp being ridden like a fish in water.  It was almost freakish how simple he was to back and begin teaching the fundamentals.  Today, he brought him into the covered arena at Stillpoint Farm while other horses were being ridden, stepped on and began warming up in all 3 gaits, each of which shows great class and amazing balance.  I have to say that riding Fiero myself was an absolute blast!  He is already understanding leg-yielding and simple transitions to all three gaits with a motor that just goes and goes and an honesty and sweetness that is truly beyond compare.  In other words - I’m psyched!  And I very much appreciate everyone who has had a role in Fiero’s coming to me and evolution into a riding horse: Kim Boyer - Breeder, Tuny Page - Owner of Stillpoint Farm, Dr. Shana Chase - My great Vet, Don Later - My great Farrier, Oded Shimoni- My eyes on the ground, and NIcholas Fyffe, Fiero’s Trainer and future Olympic Rider ( God willing!)

My 1st ride on HGF Fiero. LOVE HIM!

My 1st ride on HGF Fiero. LOVE HIM!

Cheers!

“Dover’s World”, May 31st

Normally, I wait until the end of the week before I write about my next Special Guest on Dover’s World for the following Tuesday. But every once in a while, my show excited me so much that I can’t help but tell the world about it! This Tuesday, May 31st, I will have the Senior Vice- President of PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals), Dan Mathews, on my show. Just saying the name, PETA, drives many people in the horse community over the edge, but I pride myself in looking at and for the truth. I want to know what is the mission of this organization when it comes to animals in sport and service, not just their stand on farm factories, furs, and puppy mills or using animals in lab tests. Dan seems like a very intelligent and articulate person with great leadership abilities. And I must tell you that I have never had a negative discussion with anyone directly representing PETA, so I am looking forward to a very respectful and educational conversation with Dan. I want to separate facts from myth and truth from fabrication, especially with respect to “animals used for entertainment”. Understanding exactly where the lines are drawn by PETA and its members is key to forming my own opinions, not subject to other peoples’ pre-conceived notions.

I honestly believe that all people who love animals deeply must have good hearts. So I shall go into this interview with mine wide open to Dan and listen closely to what he tells me about PETA and its goals. I hope you will join me and tune in to WBZT(AM1230) in the Palm Beaches and live around the world right here at DoversWorld.com from 6-8pm EST this Tuesday, May 31st! And Call in to take part in this great show as I am sincerely interested in your opinions! The numbers are 561-844-6167 or toll-free from anywhere to 1-800-889-0267. I really hope to hear from many of you for this very important show all about animal welfare!

Cheers!

Dale Dover’s “Rough Road”

I know it’s not always good form to tout the accomplishments of one’s sibling, but my sister, Dale, is a truly gifted person in many endeavors.  One of these is her ability to write songs which are both personal and commercial at the same time.  She has been doing this for many years - writing and performing on her guitar, and after many hours of pushing her to do so, she finally agreed and put one such song up on YouTube called, “Rough Road”.  You see, Dale has had a lot of ups and downs i her life, from problems as a child with her sight and migraine headaches to a very hard divorce which nearly broke her.  Throughout it all, she has been a constant help to our parents and always someone to be counted on to take care of anyone, person or animal in need - thus her many rescue dogs and cats.  Dale has put animals ahead of herself more times than I can count, even while going through treatment for breast cancer some years ago which, thankfully, was successful!

And now, with “Rough Road” up for people to hear, it is my hope that one of my “friends” might listen and tell their friends to tell their friends who might just know someone like, say, one of the top 3 from this year’s American Idol. Because I know that any one of them could make “Rough Road” into a huge hit on their first album as it speaks to anyone’s life who has worked extremely hard and still found the many pitfalls of life a struggle.  Please take a look at my sister’s video and help me help her to get “Rough Road” recorded by a big time celebrity with some great chops!  Thanks!!

Dover’s World, May 24th - Denny Emerson And Guy Richards!

I have 2 amazing hours of Dover’s World this Tuesday, May 24th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm EST on WBZT(AM1230,Clear Channel) in the Palm Beaches and live-streamed around the world here at DoversWorld.com.  I try very hard to balance the show between my “horsey world” and those things which rock my bigger world. :)

To that end, I am very excited to have one of the most influential horsemen in the last 100 years, Denny Emerson, as my Special Guest!  Denny has successfully competed internationally in 3-day eventing as a member of the U.S. Equestrian Team, has done endurance riding, competed at the Morgan National Championships and ridden Jumpers and now has his new book out, “How Good Riders Get Good.”  This great book has as much to do with bec0ming successful in life as it does specifically with horses and riding.  It tells how 23 of the very best riders in the world “GOT GOOD” and their tips for “MAKING IT” in the horse industry.  Denny is a funny and brilliant guy and I sincerely hope you will all tune in and call in to speak with him at 561-844-6167 or toll-free to 1-800-889=0267.

My second hour will be devoted to “STOPPING THE BULLYING” along with my friend, comedian and talk-show host, Guy Richards, who has created a campaign to educate children, parents and everyone else as to how to help this epidemic.  Threhave been so many kids committing suicide because of their feeling of hopelessness in the face of terrible bullying at schools, home and even on the Internet, and it has to STOP!  Guy Richards, along with an amazing group of celebrities, is working on a future event to raise funds for worthy organisations such as The Trevor Project and its “IT GETS BETTER” campaign.  I am living proof that it doesn’t just get better if you stick around - it gets FABULOUS!  I ask you to PLEASE tune in for this important show and PLEASE, PLEASE call in to buy a “Stop The Bullying”  T-shirt, mug or cap.  We have a responsibility to our youth,  to protect them from being hurt and to educate them not to hurt others!  This is your chance to help makethe world a better place for all kids.  I truly hope that the lights on my board light up with calls and stay that way until I go off the air.

Cheers!

Another Star Speaks Out Against Horses On The Streets Of New York

Pamela Anderson Wants to Rescue Horses in NYC

May 13, 2011 | Stars Give Back

Actress and animal activist Pamela Anderson is on a new mission to stop the mistreatment of horses in New York City, by asking the city to ban horse-drawn carriage rides.

Anderson talked with her “Dancing with the Stars” pal Tony Dovolani about it. “I don’t think the horses are being taken care of very well. I think they have miserable lives. There are plenty of sanctuaries that are willing to take them in and get them out of the streets of New York.

She says cities like London and Paris have already banned the carriage rides. “People that see the horses wandering around feel bad for them, so most cities have banned them. I just hope NY is going to, too.”

Instead, Anderson suggests using old classic cars. “It has much political support because the carriage drivers will have the first crack at obtaining the licenses to drive these beautiful classic cars, which will be a lure to tourists and show that one can have a fabulous New York experience without dragging animals into it.”

What The Bleep!

So I don’t get it!  I put up a post the other day about The Emerging Dressage Athlete Program which will revolutionise the sport for kids under 21 and give them a chance they might never have gotten.  I told how the same program for Jumpers has be heralded as the finest program ever produced for their sport…EVER!  I explained how it would work and how people, kids and adults alike, could read all the information, get applications and contribution forms at Dressage4Kids.com, and guess how many great responses I got from kids around America and their parents who are psyched about this amazing program?  Zero… Nada, Null, A BIG FAT 0!

Now here’s the thing - I, like Lendon and Courtney, am not looking for praise outa this thing; we are very happy and excited to be giving back to our youth just as we were fortunate enough to have support as children when we really needed it.  But, all you kids out there, I at least expect you to chime in and act a little stoked by this news.  I know for sure that all 3 of us would have been screaming with joy over hearing about a program which would come to us and help and nurture us into hopefully becoming future Olympic stars for America!

So, all you kids and adults out there - let’s hear from you!  OK?

Cheers!
