Techno Woes!

So here’s the thing - I did my radio show on Tuesday evening and really enjoyed speaking to Equine Nutritionist, Gabriele Sutton as well as Democratic candidate for Congress, Mike Williams. As is always the case, my show is simulcast to my website so people can not only listen live but also click on later and listen to the entire two hours.  They can even download it as well as all my older shows which are archived on my site.

But there was a glitch this week with COMCAST and the feed to all the shows including mine went off-line.  Needless to say, I was not happy with the news and let everyone at the station know it.  I was told that the technicians have been working on it and as soon as they correct the problem they will immediately send my show to my webmaster who will just as immediately put it up where it belongs on my site.  So stay tuned because IT WILL BE UP!  Hopefully before my next show this Tuesday, too! :(

Cheers?

Dover’s Latest Dream!

I was driving down the road the other day, thinking of how fantastic it is that ESP as well as the folks who put on the Gold Coast shows as well as the Masters and the White Fences shows will be producing no less than 9 major CDI’s including TWO five stars and the 1st ever CDIO ( Nations Cup) to be held annually on this continent!  On top of that, Lendon Grey, along with Courtney King-Dye and some help from me have created The Emerging Dressage Athlete Program for kids 21 and under and the 1st Robert Dover HorseMastership Week will take place from December 26th to the 31st with 7 top trainers and a host of expert lecturers on just about everything having to do with horses and sport in general. How exciting!

And then it came to me as I was lamenting the fact that we just have never produced a strong pony division for Dressage like there is in Europe and here in America for the Hunter kids.  We should create a Series using the 5 National ESP Dressage shows which go every other week between the CDI’s called the “Prix Caprilli Pony Series”.  There would be 3 divisions: Novice, consisting of a Training level Dressage test with a fairly small jump to be jumped at the end; Intermediate, a First level test and a slightly higher jump; and Advanced, consisting of a 2nd level test with the hardest pony jump at the end.  I would hold the classes on Friday late afternoon/evenings on the new show grounds and raise$5ooo.00 per division to go to the riders who accumulate the most points totaled up at the endof the 5 weeks.  Plus, I would give an overall top placing child a very fun package of an I.Pod, I.Pad, Play Station/X Box kindof thing as a bonus. I would even give a prize to the Leading Trainer of the overall Champion.  This kind of Series would not only be a lot of fun, but would integrate the kids and ensure that all of them not only have a sound basic understanding of Dressage, but also learn to jump, just as we who Pony Clubbed back in the days always did.  I believethat George Morris would love this idea as would everyone who seeks to ensure that all kids become all around great horsemen and women with strong and independent, balanced seats from which they can learn to perfect any style they choose as they grow.  And did I mention IT WOULD BE FUN!!!  :)

Cheers!

Another Carriage Horse Dead in New York City

Another carriage horse died in New York city yesterday. So here’s the thing. Horses, like people, die every day from heart attacks, aneurysms or embolisms. When I was in my teens, my horse, J.L. Seagull, dropped dead while I was walking him in the arena next to Linda Zang’s home in Maryland. He was 13 years old and seemed in the very best health when it happened. I was, naturally, shocked and heart-broken and it took me months until I would go back to the barn and start riding again. It happens in every sport with horses and even when they are out in fields at rest. The problem here is that there is great risk to pedestrians and drivers when something like this happens in the heart of Manhattan. Further, as I have said before on my site, DoversWorld.com, the driving horses in Manhattan are “on show” whenever they are working, but without the stewards we have at our arenas who can stop and suspend us as well as bring us up on charges for abuse. The horse-carriage industry is, whether they say this is not the case, mostly self-regulated and this just is not working. The sad fact is that it is not that the horses are not perfectly capable of dealing with most everything they are asked; it is rather a case that New York is no longer a city which is safe and properly fit to be the home and working place for the horses. And that is why I believe they should not be allowed to carry on the way they have as a livery business in New York.  They should, instead, be housed on farms outside the city where they can be worked and turned out and brought in under private contracts for “special occasions”, as is now the case in Toronto, Paris and other major cities around the world.  This would allow the carriage horse businesses to remain alive while assuring a better and safer life for the horses.  It has proven to work elsewhere and would work for New York as well.

“Dover’s World”, Tuesday, October 25th

If you are a horse-lover like me and have had problems in your life keeping weight on or off a horse, had ongoing colics or ulcers ( About 90% of riding or driving horses have had ulcers at one time or another.), my “Special Guest” in my first hour of Dover’s World can help you.  Gabriele Sutton is a specialist in Equine Nutrition and has devoted her life to helping our horses enjoy the most healthy and successful lives and careers possible.  Tune in from 6:05 to 8:00pm to WBZT(AM1230, Clear Channel) in the Palm Beaches and LIVE around the world right here at DoversWorld.com and call in to 561-844-6167 or toll-free to 1-800=889-0267  with your questions for Gabriele about anything concerning your horse’s digestive health.  She has been a fantastic help to me and many Olympic Team riders from both America and Canada and am positive she can help you with your equine problems as well. This is a great chance to get answers from a true expert so don’t be shy - CALL IN! :)

I am very pleased to bring back, in my second hour, candidate for Congress in the 5th district in Connecticut, Mike Williams.  Mike was on my show about 5 months ago as his campaign was getting off the ground and I will be very interested in how it’s going.  Not only is Mike a brilliant man (Just google his name and read his entire Bio and go to his website to learn more about his campaign.) who has degrees from universities here in America and abroad, he is a perfect combination of a fiscal conservative mixed with a social progressive.  Mike is also an openly gay man and a fighter for equal rights for all Americans.  I can’t wait to ask him his feelings on the present political landscape, especially about the Republican candidates and their many debates thus far.  And also what he thinks about our seemingly impossible climb out of our country’s  financial wows.  What will Mike bring to the Congress for his own state as well as our nation?  Tune in tomorrow night from 6 to 8pm and find out.  And Call in with your questions or comments to Mike at the numbers listed above, whether you are Republican or Democrat, right or left leaning.  We want to hear from YOU!

Cheers!

The X Factor F#&K-UP’S!

So here’s the thing.  I’m sorry but the producers of The X Factor did a terrible job of instructing their four “Mentors” as to which ones to select for the live-show.  It’s like they aloowed them each to make two choices on their own but instructed them which other two to pick by how well they thought their rating would be helped by using underdogs with weird stories, regardless if there were far more talented people to choose from.  In other words - they F#&KED up!

So, if I were either rich enough to have my own production company or, better yet, if I were Ellen DeGeneres who already has one, I would immediately grab the unbelievably talented singers who were rejected by the show’s stars.  Nicole screwed up by letting go of the fabulous black lady and instead tood Dexter who, thought I’m truly sorry for his circumstances, is just a freaky wanna be a return to the 70’s screamer.  Paula let go of the 4  guys who were equally great and put in the 4 blond girls who were only fair and had gone into the competition first as solo’s.  And L.A. totally missed the mark by letting go of the very hot and equally excellent singer, Brennan as well as the tall country singer who he really had no comment on that wasn’t great.  But the most glaring mistakes of the show so far were by Simon, himself.  Fortunately, he figured out his biggest error and added the young lady with the tremendous voice from Sunrise, Florida, back into the show, but putting the one girl with the cat eyes who just can’t stay on key at all over the lovely blond rugby player with the whole package was downright wrong.  I also like the young girl who was so shy on stage the first time and then sang like a pro one minute later.

I may not know the names of these singers ( I would look them all up but it’s late and I need to go to bed now.) but I just want to say one more time to any big time music producers out there ( And if you are reading this, Ellen, I’m talking to you.) ,  find out the names of these singers and groups and SIGN THEM RIGHT NOW!  You will have an immediate stable of incredible stars to manage and produce and you can even start a new label and call it, ” XFR” - X Factor Rejects!  I Love It!

Cheers!

“Just Say No …..NOT!”

Republicans have now prevented a vote from coming up in congress twice to President Obama’s Jobs Bill, even tose sections of it dealing with helping teachers, first responders and construction workers.  It is so discouraging for America, where 73% of our citizens are in favor of raising taxes on millionaires while those they voted into office refuse to listen to them.  As Ihave continued to say, Republicans would rather see our nation suffer in order to prevent Obama from being re-elected, than do what is right and in the best interest of our country.

I watched the Republican debate the other night in Las Vegas and was shocked with how chilidish  each of the hopeful nominees acted.  It wasn’t until he end when Newt Gingrich said it was probably not such a good idea for them all to banter back and forth like kids on a playground.  All in all, it made President Obama look even stronger and this week’s events in Lybia as well as his statement that all troops will be home from Iraq for the holidays were added points in his favor.

No matter what, the Republicans are in trouble - with the pizza man in the lead who is planning his 20 foot electric fence over the only electable one, Romney, who, for whatever reason, his own party doesn’t want.  I honestly don’t care who they nominate at this point, since none have a ghost of a chance unless the masses are even more stupid then they were when they elected George W. Bush…….twice!  I guess there really is a lot to worry about.  :(

Cheers?

The Future Of Pan American Dressage

The Pan American Games are now over for Dressage and they were by far the strongest games with the highest scores ever.  This goes to show that it is time for the IOC and the FEI to raise the standard the Games are contested at to Grand Prix for 4 years from now.  The concern raised by countries that their ability to field teams at Grand Prix level would be greatly diminished and therefore unfair to developing nations is now, finally, put to rest and it is high time the bar is raised to the Olympic level, just as it is around the world for other Regional Championships.

So, when the FEI hears the complaints coming from those same nations which had whined before about not being able to field Grand Prix Teams, ( and they will ) the Dressage Committee should reply saying that it was obvious this year that the standard of Dressage has grown so much that they know for sure that FOUR YEARS from now, those same countries can train their small tour horses to Grand Prix or, like the many cases where they purchased horses at the lower level, they could now do so at the Olympic level instead.  Otherwise, the Pan American Games remains a totally dysfunctional way of determining berths for the following year’s Olympic Games.  While we can be sure that America and Canada will be able to field full Teams for the games, it is conceivable that Colombia, which came 3rd this week at the Small Tour level, may not have the ability to get 4 or even 3 horses qualified with the necessary scores to go to London.  Naturally, that would not be an issue at all if the countries all had contested the Pan American Games at the Grand Prix level, as they truly should have already for the past decade.

So, IOC, FEI, and all you Middle and South American countries, I am stating my equivicle and unchangeable opinion that it’s time to RAISE THE BAR to Grand Prix for the Pan American Games in Dressage immediately.  Right now.  I wouldn’t want anyone to say that I didn’t give them ample time to make the transition and get those horses  trained or bought and the riders up to snuff.

Cheers!
