Spring is in the air…let the flowers bloom and the balls roll out

Its spring, flowers are blooming, temperature is rising, and the earth is awakening from its winter slumber. The power of spring, which brings along a breath of new life, is enough to bring joy to anyone. Recreational gardeners can enjoy the bountiful colors of their flowers, home-improvers can work on those projects that the tedious weather prevented them from, and fisherman can go back to fishing; but spring is probably the best time of the year for all of us sports enthusiasts. It’s the season for runners to go finally get in their shoes and shorts, for the horseback rider spring means being able to take a ride without first bundling up, and to watch sports whenever we are not being active!

Sports are everywhere during spring, as it’s the start of baseball season, the time to fill out March Madness NCAA Brackets (mine’s totally busted), the time for us equestrian fans to make some Kentucky Derby Betting, and in 2010 only, the time to start getting hyped for the FIFA WORLD CUP .

The topic for today will be my World Cup predictions. I will talk about another sport on my next post.

As an avid soccer fan, I enjoy arguing and discussing anything related to soccer (so please leave some comments for us to debate).

Seeing as how only 7 countries have ever won the World Cup, it is not likely for a “dark-horse” to be crowned champion. With that in mind I quickly selected my favorites (Brazil, Spain, England, Argentina, and France). The strongest team, statistically, is Spain, closely followed by Brazil. England, Argentina, and France have amazing star-studded squads.

Argentina, as deep as they are, has one major defect…Maradona. The international star turned coach, simply does not have the temperament and hasn’t shown any mastery of the coaching position, and that will be Argentina’s downfall. Similarly France’s coach Raymond Domenech, seems to be too caught up playing favorites and not making the right calls for France to shine. England, a big favorite, is largely helped by Rooney’s stellar moment…which means that if Rooney underperforms one match, it may mean the end of England’s run in the World Cup.

This leaves Spain and Brazil. My money is on Brazil. While Spain is clearly in better form than Brazil, they have a huge target on their back. This means that every team will be playing their best against Spain, and this will leave Spain very fatigued if and when they reach the Final. Brazil will play this to their advantage and with their Joga Bonito and star power, I believe that Brazil will, for the sixth time, be World Champion.

Here is a bracket of my predictions….(just click the image to enlarge it)

University World - Fall Semester

Hey guys!chapel-hill-nc142-2
Sorry for taking so long to write my first article, at first I thought it would be easy to juggle college, work, and writing, but boy was I wrong! So, I had to prioritize and leave the articles out until I had some free time.

Well my first semester of sophomore year went alright (grades weren’t bad at all but I wasn’t exactly pleased with them as they weren’t what I’m used to getting) and I’m now drawing close to having to finally decide on a major or possibly even transferring from UNC to UF (which is  a great school but not quite up to par to UNC).  At UF I can major in computer engineering (which isn’t offered at UNC) and the price tag of going to college would be significantly cheaper,  while at UNC , I can double major in either Business Administration and Math, or Business Administration and Computer Science but have to deal with out of state tuition and is not quite as close to home as I would like. Any feedback on that would be greatly appreciated… :)

I got a job as a referee for Intramural Sports, which is a great job since there’s flexible schedules to fit my studying and I get to be around the athletic department constantly (seeing as how the favorite thing in the world is playing/watching  most sports).

I’ll do stories as break goes on but I’ll leave you guys with a previw

This video is of a tradition at UNC during final exams, where a flash rave is organized in one of the libraries and is meant to just lighten the mood up during the very tense exams….party for 10 minutes, and then go back to studying…ENJOY

University World - Wordpress Hacked

I got a lot of emails this past day from users who couldn’t post a comment or view certain posts/categories. Well it seemed word press (where we do most our editing) was hacked through a malicious code that was inserted into the permalinks, it took only a couple of seconds to fix, but to realize what was wrong  took a couple minutes.  Well everything its alright now, just wanted to let people know what was wrong and that it’s fixed now.

University World

I’d like to present Dover’s World new column/section, University Universe. As a student in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I am pleased and thrilled to share the life of a college student with the readers of Dover’s World. I’ll be writing around once every two weeks, or every month, or as often as studying/work permits. In here we’ll have articles pertaining to modern advances in technology, the life of a college student (studying, classes, transfer decisions, tailgates, and of course parties!), college sports, professional sports, and pretty much everything a college student will be interested on. So come back and check it out, the first article will be coming on real soon!
